How do I register my child in a Vancouver school?

This is commonly asked questions which will be part of our Frequently Asked Question series – how do I register my child in a public Vancouver school?

Moving to Vancouver registering your child into a school is one of the most important elements to ensure your child is able to start their education on time. If your kids are over the age of 4 ½ – 5 years old, they should be enrolled in one of the British Columbia’s approved educational programs.

This can vary depending on the area you’re moving into and if you’re registering your child into a public school, private school, or homeschooling. Each school district and school board may have a slight variation to the registration process but these are typically the same.

For Kindergarten to Grade 12 students this process typically requires completing an online application form at the appropriate school board website and providing supporting documentation, including your child, showing the nearest catchment school (the school closest to your address).

Private school registration can be a more involving process as each private school has a different list of pre-requisites and requirements for students to attend their classes. Please be sure to indicate this when you are planning your move to Vancouver.
